My Favorite Perfumes
I frequently get asked to share the names of some perfumes I love, so I thought I’d make a post about it. I have quite a large collection of perfumes (which speaks to my flighty personality, I think), but here are a few of my all-time favorites.
Although this one didn’t make this list, I couldn’t write this post without giving honorable mention to Aqualina’s Pink Sugar perfume. Whenever I smell it, I am instantly transported back to high school and my teenaged years. It was my go-to scent for a long time, because it smells sweet and delicious. I can always tell when someone near me is wearing it.
My first “adult” perfume that I bought for myself was this one: Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne. No other perfume enchanted me instantly the way this one did. When I came upon it in a department store and smelled it, I was instantly hooked by the notes of blackberry, damask rose, and sandalwood. After debating the purchase for a few weeks, I finally went back and bought it. To this day I still adore it, every time I get a whiff!
Victoria’s Secret makes some really nice scents, and what’s lovely about them is that they’re more affordable than designer brand name perfumes, but every bit as wonderful. Plus, they always come in adorable bottles like this one!
In truth, it was the bottle that stole my heart, even before I ever smelled it. I’d wanted a perfume with a squeeze bulb ever since I was a little girl – I’d probably seen it in a Disney movie once and it got embedded deep within my psyche. Anyway.
I picked up Ooh La La somewhat nervously, because I already loved the packaging, the name, and the price, and crossed my fingers that I would love the scent just as much. Obviously, when it comes to perfumes, that’s the most important. Only you enjoy the other features, but everyone smells it! To my joy, I loved it. I gravitate towards light, sweet perfumes, and this was just that.
Miss Dior Cherie (since renamed Miss Dior) was a perfume I dreamed of having for a long time. Due to the steep price, I talked myself out of buying it many times before I finally allowed myself the indulgence.
The notes it’s described to have are “Italian Mandarin Essence, Egyptian Jasmine Absolute, and Indonesian Patchouli Essence.” I’m not really sure what any of that means, but it does smell lovely.
Unfortunately, due to the patchouli in it, it started to give me big headaches every time I wore it. I only wear it very rarely now, and for short periods of time, but it’s one of my favorite scents nonetheless.
My most recent perfume purchase is this one: Lancome’s La Vie Est Belle. This scent is absolutely magnificent, as it the bottle. It’s an iris gourmand, and reminds me of Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb quite a bit – another lovely scent. This is my current “fancy” perfume – I wear it whenever I’m going out for the evening.
And last but not least: my current favorite everyday perfume: Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanilla Extreme. I bought it a year or so ago from Sephora, but they don’t seem to carry the brand on Sephora online anymore. You can still get it from their site, or from Amazon.
If you, like me enjoy sweet, gourmand scents that aren’t too heady or nauseating, this is the one for you. It’s light and perfect for daytime. I have never gotten so many compliments on my scent as I do when I wear this. It makes you smell like a vanilla cupcake – but it’s not too strong or overpowering, so others only enjoy it when you lean close to them. Although the bottle isn’t the prettiest of the bunch, the smell sure is. I highly recommend it! (Plus, it’s never given me a headache, no matter how long I wear it.)
If I could only wear one perfume to be my “signature scent”, this would be it. What’s your signature scent? Share it with me in the comments! x
