Style File: Fit & Flare Dresses

image

I’ve been obsessed with fit & flare dresses lately. I love how feminine they are – very reminiscent of the 1950’s dress silhouette. But today’s fit & flare dresses are shorter in length, and the skirts less full-bodied. I think they’re darling, and when I saw these three, I knew they had to join the ever-growing family that is my wardrobe.

The first is an animal print jacquard dress from Zara, in a most beautiful pale mint color. My first Zara purchase in a very, very long time. Possibly ever, actually!

I love how simple yet elegant it is. Upon seeing it in the shop window (and stopping to press myself against the glass and gush over it), my friend commented that it was very “Stepford wife-y”. I don’t think she meant it as a compliment, but I love that classically beautiful style.

If you want to join the Stepford Wives club with me (ha ha) you can get this dress in store from Zara now, or online here!

The second dress is a peach, pink, and purple floral watercolor delight, from NastyGal. (“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.”)

(How fabulous does it look with that orange-red lipstick, too? Must remember to try that.)

Watercolor is a big trend in fashion this season, but I haven’t often seen it done well. In my opinion, it can frequently look messy and hastily done. This dress, on the other hand, is perfection.

I love the juxtaposition of the structured silhouette with the whimsical, free-flowing pattern. Also, I find the color combination stunning!

You can get the “Blooms Day Dress” online from NastyGal here.

This last dress is another one I bought online from NastyGal. It’s a gorgeous metallic chartreuse brocade dress. Chartreuse is an unusual color, but I’ve been seeing it everywhere in fashion lately, and I must say, I love it.

I’m not a fan of the way the dress is styled here, but I do like the idea of adding a statement necklace to the dress. I think bib necklaces work nicely with dresses or tops with high necklines like this one, because they add a bit of interest the the neck and décolletage area.

Get the “Josette Dress” from NastyGal here.

I can’t wait to receive all three dresses in the mail! They’re going to be such fun to style. Which dress is your favorite: 1, 2, or 3? Leave a comment and let me know!

So, what do you think: are fit & flare dresses a trend you’re apt to try? xx
