Apartment Tour: Bedroom
Now that you’ve seen my apartment’s living room, let me show you my bedroom! Unlike my living room, which is more or less finished, decor-wise (at least for now), my bedroom is still a bit incomplete.
If I were to wait until it was completely finished to show you, you might be in for a looooong wait. So here’s what it looks like so far.
Come on in!
It’s nice and roomy (pun intended – as always).
There’s a vanity table with matching bench, a fluffy full-size bed, and a night stand. My closet is cleverly tucked away in the wall, so there’s not much to see there. A great space-safer, and a good way to keep the messier things out of sight.
Speaking of nifty space-savers, beds with storage underneath them are, as Martha Stewart would say, “a good thing”.
There’s also a full-length mirror on the wall near the door opposite the vanity, (which I forgot to photograph); but it’s there, and will make quick OOTD selfies so much easier. No more bathroom pics!
Cozy faux-sheepskin rug here. There’s a beautiful sunny window which I haven’t yet curtained, because I haven’t found the perfect curtain just yet. (I try not to buy items for the home unless they absolutely make me swoon.)
Although I kept the decor style similar to the living room, the bedroom is a bit more monochromatic.
Getting this headboard was a bit of a struggle, because few places would ship it to Canada. I finally found this custom Georgiana upholstered headboard, in the color “shantung pearl”. It comes in just about every color you can imagine. It’s stunning and arrived so promptly!
Really dresses up an otherwise ordinary, inexpensive bed frame and jazzes up the whole room, don’t you think?
I knew I wanted something really special for the bedroom. A statement piece of decor. So when I saw these paper butterflies on Etsy almost a year ago, I knew one day they’d be mine. And that day arrived!
They come in various sizes, flat and in a small parcel, and you get to fold them up and organize them however you like, sticking them to the wall with blue sticky tack. Once folded and arranged they’re brought to life. I think they look just magical!
I got them in black, but they come in various colors, shapes, and sizes.
Metallic silver pillow from Homesense, and reversible “good morning gorgeous/good night gorgeous” pillow from Indigo.
The Naples vanity table and bench set was something I found at Home Depot. I preferred it to the IKEA one because it had really convenient storage drawers, and came with a matching leather upholstered bench.
The vanity also doubles as a convenient desk where I can sit and work on my macbook when I don’t want to lounge with it on the bed or couch.
On the tabletop I just kept a few essentials and decor items.
A cut lace vanity tray displaying my favorite perfumes: Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, Miss Dior Cherie, LAVANILA Pure Vanilla, Lancome La Vie Est Belle, and YSL Parisienne.
Bouquet of lavender silk peonies from Afloral.
On the corner of the vanity table sits a small mirrored jewelry armoire, which contains my favorite dainty necklaces and bracelets, as well as my Daniel Wellington watch.
There are little homages to Jane Austen all over my apartment; and this mug is one of them – it’s a quote from Pride and Prejudice that says, “You cannot be more than twenty, I am sure; therefore you need not conceal your age.” I may be twenty-two, but it still serves as a good reminder not to overdo my makeup in the mornings.
Although the vanity table itself has a big mirror, for detail work (I’m looking at you, liquid eyeliner) it’s important to have a mirror you can lean really close to. This gold Antoinette table mirror was just the thing for the job.
The vanity table has three drawers, and I keep all the makeup I use on a daily basis in the middle shallow drawer. It’s incredibly convenient to not have to dig through my entire makeup collection just to find my everyday products.
On the left drawer, I keep the rest of my makeup. Palettes, blushes, lipsticks, and eyeshadows galore. Here’s a little peek at what it looks like.
In what is meant to be a jewelry organizer, I keep a few of my favorite stud earrings and dainty rings, as well as my most used lipsticks.
In the last drawer, I keep hair styling things. Headbands, my curling iron, ghd iron, hair elastics, bobby pins, scrunchies – the works. Keeps things simple and within reach during the big morning scramble.
On the far side of the bed is my nightstand. As with everything else, most things are tucked away in the drawers, leaving me to keep on the tabletop only the prettiest and most essential things: a lamp, clock, candle, tissue box, and my iPhone dock.
This little old fashioned-looking alarm clock is my favorite. Even though I use my phone to wake me up in the mornings, this fella does a great job telling the time.
This here is another item I’ve been longingly gazing at online for quite some time: a Pride and Prejudice booski iPhone dock.
I LOOOOOVE IT. If you want your own, they come for both iPhone and iPad, and you can choose just about any book you want.
Of course, I went for my favorite.
Other than the paper butterflies, the only wall decor I have right now is this gold scratch map of the world. The idea is that you scratch off places you’ve been, but I rather like the gold finish, so I’m keeping it as is.
I’m trying to think of a better way to mark places I’ve been… perhaps by mounting it onto a cork board and sticking pins in cities I’ve visited. We’ll see!
I have lots of things I’d like to frame and hang on the walls, but for now, this is what my bedroom looks like.
Happy Friday, and stay tuned for kitchen & bathroom tours! xx
