A Gatsby Affair

image

Tonight I went to see The Great Gatsby – my most anticipated film of the year. Baz Luhrmann is one of my all-time favorite directors, and Carey Mulligan one of my favorite actresses; so when I heard the two were coming together on this project, I was thrilled.  Continue Reading →

My 10 Favorite MAC Lipsticks

Top 10 Best MAC Lipsticks

I love MAC lipsticks. They’re good quality, long lasting, come in a range of colours and textures, and make up the majority of my lipstick collection. I do use (and love) a variety of other brands, from drugstore to high end, but I thought I’d share my top 10 best MAC lipsticks. Continue Reading →

Recipe du Jour: Green Smoothie

image

I don’t often make smoothies, because I prefer to eat my fruit and veggies in their whole form. But sometimes I’m not in the mood for a jumbo salad, and a smoothie is a great way to get some extra greens in on those days. Continue Reading →

Mini Bath & Body Works Haul

I’ve been living without any scented candles for months. Horrible, I know. I don’t know how I’ve survived so long, but thankfully I needn’t go without any longer.

I hit up Bath & Body Works recently to pick up a few large 14.5 oz 3-wick candles. Since I’m not a fan of floral, fruity or herbal scents, (as far as candles go) the selection at this time of year was limited for me. I love the holidays, when they have all kinds of delicious food-scented candles. But alas, it’s spring! After sticking my nose into every kind of candle they had, I chose the White Barn ‘Frosted Cupcake’ candle, which is much beloved by bloggers and Youtubers.  Continue Reading →

Sephora and MAC Haul & Review

image

You guys seem to like makeup posts, so I thought I’d share a few things I’ve bought lately. Sephora had a 15% off everything promotion recently, so I took advantage of that and repurchased a few products I was running low on.

As for the MAC stuff, I plead guilty. No excuse there! But let’s start with what I got at Sephora. Continue Reading →

Style File: Fit & Flare Dresses

image

I’ve been obsessed with fit & flare dresses lately. I love how feminine they are – very reminiscent of the 1950’s dress silhouette. But today’s fit & flare dresses are shorter in length, and the skirts less full-bodied. I think they’re darling, and when I saw these three, I knew they had to join the ever-growing family that is my wardrobe.

The first is an animal print jacquard dress from Zara, in a most beautiful pale mint color. My first Zara purchase in a very, very long time. Possibly ever, actually!

image

I love how simple yet elegant it is. Upon seeing it in the shop window (and stopping to press myself against the glass and gush over it), my friend commented that it was very “Stepford wife-y”. I don’t think she meant it as a compliment, but I love that classically beautiful style.

image

If you want to join the Stepford Wives club with me (ha ha) you can get this dress in store from Zara now, or online here!

The second dress is a peach, pink, and purple floral watercolor delight, from NastyGal. (“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.”)

(How fabulous does it look with that orange-red lipstick, too? Must remember to try that.)

Watercolor is a big trend in fashion this season, but I haven’t often seen it done well. In my opinion, it can frequently look messy and hastily done. This dress, on the other hand, is perfection.

I love the juxtaposition of the structured silhouette with the whimsical, free-flowing pattern. Also, I find the color combination stunning!

You can get the “Blooms Day Dress” online from NastyGal here.

This last dress is another one I bought online from NastyGal. It’s a gorgeous metallic chartreuse brocade dress. Chartreuse is an unusual color, but I’ve been seeing it everywhere in fashion lately, and I must say, I love it.

image

I’m not a fan of the way the dress is styled here, but I do like the idea of adding a statement necklace to the dress. I think bib necklaces work nicely with dresses or tops with high necklines like this one, because they add a bit of interest the the neck and décolletage area.

image

Get the “Josette Dress” from NastyGal here.

I can’t wait to receive all three dresses in the mail! They’re going to be such fun to style. Which dress is your favorite: 1, 2, or 3? Leave a comment and let me know!

So, what do you think: are fit & flare dresses a trend you’re apt to try? xx

Fancy Paper Straws

image

The lovely Kristi from the Etsy shop PartyDelights sent me some of her beautiful paper straws to review for you guys.

She sells a wide variety of colored sets, so if you’re looking to buy these for a themed birthday party, she has sets like Cinderella (light blue, light pink, and medium blue) and Tangled (hot pink, yellow, and purple).

She was kind enough to let me mix and match my own set, so I chose these three colors: “it pink” (the lighter pink), “mint”, and “raspberry pink”. Continue Reading →
