10 Healthy Snack Ideas

10 Healthy Snack Ideas

Here are a few simple, healthy mini-meal or snack ideas I’ve been enjoying lately.

1. Sort of a play on ‘strawberries and cream’ – strawberries dipped in organic 0% fat plain greek yogurt. Takes only 5 minutes to prepare, but you’ll feel like a queen eating them. Great for breakfast or a snack! Continue Reading →

Book Review: Outliers

image

I just finished reading Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell – and it was probably one of the most interesting things I’ve read lately.

It’s about success, but not in the way you’d expect. It’s not a “how to be successful” guide. It’s an exploration of all the factors that go into being successful (or not) – many of which are ones you’d never think of. Continue Reading →

Nails of the Week.

Okay, in all honesty, the title of this post is a bit of a lie. A more accurate title would be “nails of the past week”, but that just doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it? As I type this, my newest manicure is drying, but anyway – last week my nails were painted Essie’s “Mint Candy Apple”, one of my favorite spring colors. It’s almost Tiffany and Co.’s signature robin-egg blue.

Though where I live it’s still freezing cold and we are in the midst of a long and dreary winter, I have taken to painting my nails bright spring colors to cheer myself up. I can’t wait until the weather warms, and I can stop living in big sweaters, jeans, and boots.

But, alas. This is Sparta Canada.

What color are your nails at the moment? xx

Lush Bath Bomb Haul

image

A Lush bath is the perfect end to any day, especially ones that have been particularly stressful, long, or otherwise trying. I wish I could turn every bath into a Lush bath, but Lush goodies are a bit pricey, so I have to save them for special occasions. Continue Reading →

Nails of the Week.

Butter London – “British Racing Green”. I’m absolutely in love with this color. A deep, almost black, green color, with just a hint of shimmer that’s hardly noticeable unless you’re in the sunlight. Definitely a new favorite!

Winter Haul-idays

image

Today is my last day of my last ever winter break from school. Tomorrow I start my last semester of university ever. It’s crazy to think about, actually. Virtually my whole life has been spent in the school system. I remember important events in my life based on what grade I was in when they happened. And now, in four short months, my school career will be completely over and I’ll be plunged, headfirst, into the adult world. Continue Reading →

Candy cane nails.

Decided to try out some fun holiday nail art, so I did festive candy cane-inspired nails! Using a white nail polish pen, I painted diagonal stripes over a solid red polish base. Once that dried, I added a top coat, and that’s it! It was my first time doing striped nails, so while the result isn’t totally perfect (let’s just say I’ll never be a surgeon), I’m pretty pleased with it for a first attempt.

Happy last full day on Earth, everyone! ;) xx

Christmas nails!

As you have all probably now learned, I am quite a lazy person by nature. So if there are little tricks to save time and make life simpler, you best believe I take them.

For example, I recently painted my nails a beautiful bright retro red color (Sephora by OPI “And A Cherry On Top”), and wore it for about a week when it started to chip at the ends. Now, I just wasn’t feeling up to scrubbing it all off and re-painting my nails some other color. Because I’m very lazy. So instead, I took out my nail clipper and trimmed my nails, which conveniently also took off all the chipped bits. Hooray – a perfect manicure, take two.

But I didn’t stop there, though I could have. I felt like adding some sparkle, so I decided to turn my classic red manicure into a holiday-inspired manicure. I used two gold glitter topcoats (one with fine gold glitter, and one with a combination of large and small glitter) to paint over the red. It took about two minutes to do, and voilà! Christmas nails.

Do you guys have any little tricks to make a manicure last longer? Let me know! x

Nails of the Week.

Gold on gold – one of my favorite nail combinations. Sparkly nails make me feel like it’s the holidays, which make me happy. Once Halloween is properly over, I can start to get into the Christmas spirit, and listen to Christmas music and light my gingerbread scented candle and all that good stuff. :)

But anyway. I used Sephora by OPI “Charge It!” as the base, which is a gorgeous metallic yellow-gold, and then Love & Beauty gold glitter over that, in the color “Crystal Gold”. It was my first time using that polish, and I was skeptical because it was from Forever 21 and quite inexpensive – but the ratio of glitter to clear polish was awesome! It was packed with sparkle. I hope it holds up well throughout the week. x

Bath & Body Works Candle Haul

image

As the big Bath & Body Works sale was drawing to a close, I decided to take advantage of the 2 for $20 three-wick candle deal before it ended. Normally these big candles are $19.50 each, which is quite a lot, even when you consider that they burn for 30-45 hours each. Since I’m unwilling to spend nearly twenty bucks for a candle (wonderful as they may be), I use the sale opportunities to scoop up all the scents I want to stock up on. Continue Reading →

Book Review: The Fault In Our Stars

image

So, I started and finished this book today. Let me start by saying there will be no spoilers in this brief review. Except, that, at some point, something sad happens. But I don’t think I’m giving much away by saying that, since that’s quite widespread information. Continue Reading →
