My Gym Bag Essentials

My Gym Bag Essentials | Sara du Jour

When it comes to sticking to a fitness regimen, it helps to have the right gear. I know that for me, if my fitness gear is cute, I’m excited to use it and that helps me stay motivated. If you’re striving to keep to your New Year’s resolution to exercise more frequently (or at all), packing your gym bag essentials the night before makes it easier to grab it and go the next morning. And that’s means you have one less excuse to make the day-of!

I am the opposite of a morning person, so I go to the gym straight from work a few days a week. Here’s what I typically pack: Continue Reading →

Hosting a Christmas Cocktail Party

Hosting a Christmas Cocktail Party | Sara du Jour

In December, I decided I would host a Christmas cocktail party for a few good friends from work. I dressed up, got my apartment holiday-ready, made a playlist of my favourite jazzy covers of Christmas classics (mostly Michael Bublé, Ella Fitzgerald, and She & Him), designed a menu of custom cocktails, and laid out a spread of cheeses, charcuterie, fruit, crackers, and more. { See what I wore here. } Continue Reading →

Sparkly New Year's Eve Party Outfit | Sara du Jour

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a smashing time ringing in 2016 with your friends or loves last night. Now that we’re all in bed, browsing the internet and nursing our collective hangovers, let’s talk about fashion.

New Year’s Eve is both one of my favourite nights of the year and one of my favourite nights to dress for. It is without a doubt the sparkliest holiday, and I try to take full advantage.  Continue Reading →

Retro Glamour Little Red Dress Outfit

Retro Glamour Little Red Dress Outfit | Sara du Jour

Holiday party season continues, as does my love affair with 1950s fashion. It truly is my favourite decade for feminine style, followed closely by the 1940s. That’s why I combined a 1940s Rita Hayworth-inspired hairstyle with a 1950s Marilyn Monroe-inspired little red dress for this glamourous evening look. Continue Reading →

Retro 1950s Christmas Party Outfit

Retro 1950s Christmas Party Outfit | Sara du Jour

*Gasp!* An outfit post! I know, it’s been a minute. But every time I do a poll asking which of my blog post types is your favourite, outfit posts seem to come out on top, so I’m doing my best to oblige. Anyway, I recently hosted a Christmas cocktail party at my apartment for some friends from the office, and since I was going all Stepford-y with the food and drinks I prepared (stay tuned for that post), I figured I’d do the same with my outfit of the evening. Cocktail Hour: Spiced Rum Apple Toddy

Spiced Rum Hot Apple Toddy Recipe | Sara du Jour

Few cocktails taste so much like Christmas than a spiced rum apple toddy. There are many different takes on hot toddy recipes, but this one’s my personal favourite. I served these up at my recent Christmas party (post to come!) and they were a big hit. They’re simple to whip up, delicious, warm, festive, and surprisingly potent. Continue Reading →

Dark Chocolate Christmas Bark Recipe

Healthy Dark Chocolate Christmas Bark Recipe | Sara du Jour

If you, like me, love indulging in delicious holiday treats all through the month, but are still trying to eat kind of healthy, I’ve got just the recipe for you. There’s nothing more swoon-worthy or festive than dark chocolate Christmas bark, and since this one’s made with 79% dark chocolate and loaded with healthy nuts and dried fruit, it gets to stay off the “naughty” list.

As a bonus, as with all my recipes, it’s super easy to make. Believe me, if it requires actual culinary skills, it ain’t happenin’ in my kitchen. Continue Reading →

Bar Cart Essentials { Home Bar Haul }

Bar Cart Essentials |Sara du Jour

Bar carts seem to be popping up everywhere lately, and if you follow me on Pinterest, you know I’ve had my eye on them for quite a while now. I managed to get my own bar cart ready just in time for holiday entertaining. This project was truly a labour of love, from picking out each item, to planning the design of the cart, and finally, actually building the DIY bar cart itself. I am pleased to say that I now have a bar cart in my apartment, and I can’t wait to share all the details with you.

24 Things I Learned by 24

24 Things I Learned by 24 | Sara du Jour
For the past two years, I’ve made a series of these posts: 22 Things I Learned by 22 and 23 Things I Learned by 23. I enjoy looking back at these posts and being able to see how my point of view has changed with time, or hasn’t. Today is my birthday, and I turn 24. I thought it was only fitting to reflect on my year, and share some things I know to be true based on my life experiences so far. And what a year it’s been! As always, I’d love it if you added your own bits of wisdom in the comments.

Without any further ado: here are 24 things I learned by 24. Continue Reading →

DIY White + Gold Bar Cart (IKEA Hack)

DIY White + Gold Bar Cart (IKEA Hack) | Sara du Jour
Pictured above: Bar Sign | Shelf | Ice Bucket | Gold Tray | Flowers

Bar carts have become very trendy lately, and I’ve been wanting one of my own for quite some time. Though I’m not much of a drinker, I love entertaining and think bar carts make a wonderful piece of home decor, too. Unfortunately, all the bar carts I’d been lusting over were waaaaaay outside my budget. The least expensive one was over a hundred dollars, the most expensive one, close to two thousand. I was just about to give up on my dream of having my own bar cart, until I stumbled upon this lovely DIY tutorial from Sugar & Cloth. Continue Reading →

House of Lashes Haul + Review

House of Lashes Haul | Sara du Jour
I’d heard about House of Lashes from the lovely Alexandra on Youtube, and they looked so stunning on her I had to give them a try for myself. After browsing the many options on their site, I ended up choosing three different eyelash styles to try. But before I go into those, let’s take a moment to appreciate the beautiful packaging these come in! (Who doesn’t love great packaging?) Continue Reading →
