Kate Spade and Indigo Holiday Haul

Kate Spade and Indigo Holiday Haul | Sara du Jour
I did warn you guys that there was another Kate Spade and Indigo haul coming – and this one’s a big one. At this point, my love affair with all things gold, polka dotted, Kate Spade, or Chapters Indigo is news to nobody, and as luck would have it, Chapters Indigo released a holiday collection that is a collision of all those things. It might as well have been designed for me! Continue Reading →

Halloween Cocktail Party

Halloween Party | Sara du Jour
Last Saturday night, I hosted a little Halloween cocktail party at my apartment for a few close friends. Halloween, both for kids and adults, is half about the junk food, and half about dressing up – so I had to make sure both elements were present at my party. Continue Reading →

Book Review: The Rosie Project

Book Review: The Rosie Project | Sara du Jour

I have to be honest: I was prepared to dislike The Rosie Project, by Graeme Simsion. While I love romantic comedies on film, I very rarely read or enjoy them on the page.

It didn’t help that the glowing recommendation on the cover promised I’d fall madly in love with The Rosie Project. This only made me more determined to prove them wrong. Continue Reading →

Lara Croft Tomb Raider Costume / Cosplay

Lara Croft Cosplay Costume | Sara du Jour

Last year, at Halloween, I dressed up as Disney’s Belle, from Beauty and the Beast, and Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The year before, I went as Hermione Granger. This year, I continued my trend of dressing up as my favourite fictional females, and went as Lara Croft: Tomb Raider from the video games and films. Continue Reading →

Fall Fashion Haul (Lulu’s + Forever 21)

Fall Fashion Haul (Lulu's + Forever 21) | Sara du Jour
Fall fashion is the most fun to shop and dress for, isn’t it? Jewel tones, textures, and layering make a comeback as we ease away from the bright colours and airy designs of summertime. Here’s a fall fashion haul of a few style pieces (clothing and accessories) I’ve bought over the last little while as I got excited for the change in seasons. Continue Reading →

Recipe du Jour: The Breakfast Burger

Egg Frittata Breakfast Burger Recipe | Sara du Jour
It all started with a question: can you microwave an egg? I did what anyone with a thought in their head and working internet connection would do: I Googled it. As it turns out, you can microwave an egg. I skimmed through a few recipes that included this method, from quiches to complex frittatas, some of which were made in a mug. When I saw that, an idea began to take shape in my mind, and a recipe was born. I call it the Smoked Salmon Egg Frittata Breakfast Burger, and it’s ah-maz-ing. Continue Reading →

Book Review: Dark Places

Book Review: Dark Places by Gillian Flynn | Sara du Jour
Gillian Flynn is one hell of a writer. I plunged back into the world of fiction after a brief holiday in memoir-land, and let me start by saying: the title doesn’t lie. Dark Places is dark. Really, really dark.

Let me paint you a picture. Continue Reading →

Home Office Haul: Indigo + Kate Spade

Home Office Haul: Kate Spade + Indigo | Sara du Jour

I’m slightly ashamed to admit that this is the first of two Indigo haul posts to come. What can I say: Indigo bookstore is my kryptonite. Plus, they carry Kate Spade items, which is just unfair, really. So anyway, here are a few things I bought recently to keep me organized, motivated, and stylish while I work from home. Book Review: Not My Father’s Son

Alan Cumming Not My Father's Son Book Review

I’m not one for celebrity memoirs. They tend to be self-indulgent money grabs which aren’t even written by the celebrity 99.9999% of the time – they’re ghost written.

Alan Cumming’s memoir, Not My Father’s Son, is the complete opposite. It’s raw, beautiful, brave, and honest. I really can’t say enough good things about it. Continue Reading →

Brunch in the Afternoon

Brunch in the Afternoon - Sara du Jour

A little while ago, I hosted brunch at my apartment for a few of my closest friends. The great thing about hosting is that you get to set the rules of the game. In this case, it meant that for one day, everyone had to operate on Sara time.

That meant brunch – in the late afternoon. Continue Reading →

10 Tips for Building Self Confidence

10 Tips for Building Self Confidence - Sara du Jour

One of the most common questions I get asked online is about how to build your confidence and feel good about yourself.

In a world that literally functions based on telling people (especially women) that they’re not good enough as they are (yay, capitalism!), having confidence in the face of that onslaught is no easy feat. Continue Reading →
