Modcloth Clothing Haul
I love Modcloth, because they veer away from the trendy, and offer cute, timeless pieces, many of which are vintage-inspired. I bought two of my all-time favorite dresses from them, including my retro red birthday dress, which I received a ton of compliments on. (Get it here.) Continue Reading →
Recipe du Jour: Simple Guacamole
Avocados are the bees’ knees. They’re so good, they practically don’t need anything else added to them. But combined with a few simple ingredients, whipping up a yummy & healthy guacamole is easy as pie. Continue Reading →
Custom iPhone Case from Zazzle
Like most people, my iPhone is basically an extension of my arm. I love it, can’t go anywhere without it, and guard it like Smeagol guarded his preciousssss.
Custom cases are a great way to personalize a phone and make it your own. And being the artsy person I am, I like to design my own! Continue Reading →
Tutorial: The Perfect Red Lip
Whether you’re going for a classic pin-up look, or just want to spice up your makeup, the perfect red lip is a staple.
I love wearing red lipstick on days I’m feeling a little drab. There’s something about it that just lifts up your spirits and changes the way your carry yourself. Continue Reading →
Hunter Wellies: Haul & Review
I love rain. What I don’t love are squishy, soggy toes. These last few months have been very wet here in Toronto, and I’ve been drenched to the bone on more than one occasion.
I’ve been eying Hunter Wellington rubber rain boots for quite a while, and after getting soaked one too many times, I finally went and bought myself a pair. Continue Reading →
Nails of the Week: Summer Brights
Now that we’re properly into August, I wanted a manicure that reflected the last of these hot(ish) summer days.
I painted my nails an almost neon coral pink, using Butter London’s “Trout Pout”, then used Revlon’s “Jaded” to add mint polka dots on my ring finger. Continue Reading →
Yes To… Drugstore Hauls
Drugstores are a dangerous place for me. I always end up browsing through the aisles, knowing there’s something there I should be buying. And in the process of searching, I end up finding a few other things.
Yesterday was just such a day. I went in to re-purchase my favorite lip balm, and went out with my bag stuffed full of drugstore goodies. Continue Reading →
Meet Cheech.
If you follow me on instagram, you may already know about my little guy. He’s my pride and joy, but I’ve never formally introduced him on the blog before. So here I go: his name is Cheech, and he’s a beige chinchilla. I brought him home exactly four years ago, this month! He also happens to be quite the dandy.
But that’s enough from me. I’ll let him do the rest of the talking.
Hello internet people, I’m Cheech. Mom said I get to write a whole post about myself, but she forgets I lack opposable thumbs. (Curse you, evolution!) Anyway, she’s going to write down everything I say, and translate it from Spanish to English. (My ancestors originate from South America, you see.)
Here I am again. (This is a good photo of me, I think I’ll have to make it my profile pic.) Mom says I look like Mickey Mouse. I don’t know who that is, but I bet he’s very handsome. My whiskers are my favorite feature. They’re long and dignified, and I think they make me look very stately.
Or is my best feature my bushy tail? Hmm, I’ll have to think about this. (On a side note, I can’t believe mom took a photo of my bum. No manners!)
Some of my favorite activities include running, rebounding off things like Spiderman, eating, and taking dust baths. You humans and your water baths are very strange. How on earth do you expect water to keep your fur in tip top condition?
Mom said you guys would want to get a good look at me, so here are a few more pictures. Here I am giving you the 3/4 view. My ears look particularly becoming at this angle.
I’m mostly nocturnal (like mom), so I spend my days sleeping or just generally chinchillin’.
As for mom? She’s adequate, as far as humans go. I tolerate her. She gives a mean chin massage, though, I’ll give her that.
It’s my favorite part of the day, but don’t tell her that! Don’t want her getting all big-headed and stuff.
For treats, I enjoy it when mom gives me sunflower seeds, rose hips, raisins, and other little nibbles.
Though sometimes I refuse them on principle. Just so she knows I can’t be bought.
Other times, I’m just hungry.
While I enjoy life as a bachelor, one day I hope to meet a nice lady chinchilla, settle down, and pop out a few kits. I think it would be a shame not to pass on these stellar genes, don’t you? x
White Hot Summer
After rocking deep red shellac nails for over a month, I was ready for a dramatic change. I took my time browsing the whole selection of nail colours available at the salon today, waiting to spot one that was just right.
I have a job interview on Thursday (fingers crossed!), and am starring in a short film my friend is writing/directing this weekend, so the colour couldn’t be anything too crazy, for both reasons. When I saw this gorgeous white, I was sold. Not too sheer nor too opaque (think: White-Out) it’s the summertime spin on the nude nail. Continue Reading →
Haul: JustFab, Lulu’s, & More
I’ve been pretty good about curbing my impulsive shopping habits lately, but here’s a collection of a few things I’ve bought in stores or online over the past little while.
When I saw these adorable rose sandals from Lulu’s, I knew immediately they had to be mine. They’re charming, romantic, and the ankle strap keeps them from sliding off your heels. (That tends to be a problem for me with flats.) Continue Reading →
Sketchy Memories
While cleaning up this morning, I stumbled across a few old sketchbooks of mine, so I thought it might be fun to share some random doodles I came upon flipping through them.
A half-way finished pencil sketch of Eva Green, from high school. My commitment issues manifest in all aspects of my life, obviously.
Who let the dogs out? I did. Apparently I drew this at some point during high school, though I have absolutely no recollection of it!
I vaguely remember this one: a study of a draped cloth done with both Sharpie and pencil (I marked each, in case it wasn’t apparent. Genius.)
Something I put a little more time into: a colored pencil portrait of Indian actress Aishwarya Rai. Faces were (and are) my favorite thing to draw. This was a project I did during my senior year of high school.
Some nudes. Figure drawing with live models is insanely fun. You get varying times for each pose – I think these were 30 seconds or so!
I have no explanation for this one.
This was a planning sketch I did in my first year of university, for a 10-foot tall mermaid portrait done in chalk pastel. I wish I had a photo of the final product handy to show you!
I used to love drawing, and I did it a lot. Nowadays I work almost entirely digitally, which is faster and more forgiving, but I do miss the tactile nature pen and paper allows. I might have to pick up a pencil and see if I’ve still got it one of these days!
Do you have a favorite hobby? x

Summer Nail Polish Picks
I did one of these posts in the spring, so I thought I’d share an edit of my favorite summer-inspired nail polishes too. They’re bright, cheerful, and perfect for a day in the sun. Continue Reading →
